End of Week Tired

Not sure if Wednesday or Thursday is the hardest day of the week for me. Wednesday at dead center usually feels like the week has barely begun. Thursday's find me tired and my resolve to keep it all together starts to fracture. Maybe it's the day I look at my to do list and realize I was too ambitious. And of course the laundry is starting to hit critical mass.

But if I power through, the weekend will be less cluttered with chores. Here goes Thursday.

Frogs in the Sandbox

Sometimes putting off chores has its benefits. That is if you find frogs in the sand box a plus.

The weekend before last, my daughter and I were working in the garden when she asked me "Mommy what's that sound?" I was surprised by the source and the loudness, but I was pretty sure I knew what it was.

I told her to follow me and we headed over to her turtle shaped sandbox where the ribbiting noises were emanating from. The top has been only partially on and the box has been swamped with water for a few weeks now. I keep meaning to drain it, clean the sand and set it up as a proper sandbox again for her. Too late.

We pulled off the lid and there were frogs. One really big one and two little ones. My daughter's sandbox was now a frog pond and she was delighted. My guilt at not cleaning it out was replaced with child like joy at the sight of our frogs.

We visited them several times during the day and I loved seeing the fascination in my daughter's face. I'm sure there is a relocation project in our future, but for now we are thoroughly enjoying our miniature frog pond.

Our Own Little Hint of Spring

I was getting a little jealous of all the pictures people were posting on Facebook of daffodils and crocuses blooming in their yards and neighborhoods. I was also beginning to think what's up? What's wrong with my bulbs? Did the squirrels or deer eat them? Then yesterday, we went outside and voila our garden has begun to bloom. I was so happy to see a few crocuses had come up. Then I spotted the tulips that had been hidden under the snow. They have a ways to go, but they are back! My happiness was followed by the realization that my gardening chores have returned. Suddenly a list was running through my head:

Rest of the leaves cleared out of the beds.
Re do the edging on the beds.
Little metal fences that deter the deer, well sort of, back in place.
Add more mulch before the weeds start.
Buy Deer Away and spray away.

The list goes on but I won't torture everyone with it. Argh, I really don't need more on my To Do List. The funny thing about gardening chores is that they bother me less than say doing the laundry or emptying the dishwasher. Maybe because an empty dishwasher or a stack of folded clothing has nothing on the beauty of a flower. I'll be outside if you're looking.
